Long Term Thinking
Mindset is critically important for success. One of the common traits of the super successful is that they focus on the long term. The unsuccessful, on the other hand, tend to concentrate on short term results. This single difference has dramatic impacts in the life you lead.
Short term thinking causes long term problems. A prime example of this is often the political world. Politicians take steps thinking about the time frame to the next election cycle. They do not truly consider the long term impacts of their decisions.
Some business leaders fall into this same mindset. This is especially true for publicly traded companies. The executives there are concerned about the next quarter's reporting. Often, their decisions are good for the short term while have negative long term effects.
On the personal level, attitude is affected when you have long term thinking. With this mindset, the ups and downs of life do not impact you as greatly. There will always be setbacks. This is a fact of life. However, when you look at the big picture, it is easy to see how a temporary setback is not that major. People with short term thinking often get caught up on this.
Develop a long term mindset. Look at what you want your life to be 1, 5, 10, and 20 years from now. These are the time frames I found beneficial. People who think in these terms weather all that life has to throw at it. Certainly, there are times when things will not go well. Concentrating on the longer cycle will reveal all the positives.
