3 Year Timeframe
Do you have goals for the next three years written down? If not, then you are missing one of the most powerful tools that exists for success. Why did I choose the time period of three years? The reason is to give a longer perspective of the process. Rome was not built in a day. The same is true for your plans. Often, it takes time for things to develop the way that you like.
With the recent ending of the Olympics, it is beneficial to learn from those athletes. The passing of these games means that many are already looking towards 2012. This is a 4 year outlook. Their goal is firmly planted in their mind: to win a gold medal. Now is the time that each of them will start working towards that end.
What does having an outlook like this do for us?
1. It provides us with a direction. There is an overriding goal. For the athlete, it is to win a gold medal. Where do you want to be three years from now?
2. This mindset allows us to chart a path to our successful outcome. The Olympic athlete will set down the training schedule for the next few years in preparation for different competitions.
3. We can determine our strengths and weaknesses to focus on improving in the areas we presently fall short. This can by done by personal self improvement or by partnering with another who has those qualities we need.
4. It gives enough time for the progress to take place. An athlete will not see a big difference after a week of working out. However, over the course of a couple of years, the change can be seen. You might not see a drastic change in your life after a few weeks; yet work a plan over three years and you will find your life in a different place.
It is time to sit down and plan the next 3 years. The time will elapse whether you are prepared for it or not. Utilize this tool for success to create the life that you desire.
