Do One Thing At A Time

Multi-tasking is a myth that some egotistically use to inflate their egos. You will hear these people talk about how they excel at this "art" which makes them extremely valuable. It is a con job that is used to hide how they really are inefficient. Those who are most productive "single-task"

"I do one thing at a time, I do it well, and then I move on." Charles Winchester (M*A*S*H)

This quote from the hit television series really drives the point home. Do you do one thing at a time, do it well, and then move on? If not, you are sacrificing efficiency. We are wired to operate in this manner. Anything contrary to the natural methodology which we were born with will hinder us.

The human mind can only consciously concentrate on one thing at a time. If you doubt that, try to think of two things at this moment. It is impossible to concentrate on this article while thinking about what you are going to have for dinner. One thought is going to override the other. That is how the mind works.

Those who multi-task believe they are splitting their focus. This is impossible. Since they are attempting to handle two activities simultaneously, the concentration is bouncing back and forth. This allows for the opportunity to miss something.

I found that the most successful people were able to harness the power of the mind by putting all their mental effort into one area. This is what put them ahead of everyone else. Our mind is the most powerful mechanism there is. However, to maximize it's potential, we much be able to focus. This is easier to do when we look to do only one thing at a time.

Do not buy into the myth of multi-tasking. You will be more productive by following the above mentioned words of the snobbish doctor from Boston. Single-tasking is your path to true success.
